Selected science related limericks from a larger collection of limericks eventually going into a book I'm working on.
PPE
Whether working with drums or with flasks,
Toxicologists have deadly tasks,
Poison gas, toxic mold,
So, we only grow old,
By respecting both science and masks.
Science
Science is always repeatable,
In steps clear and completable.
The rest is a trick,
Which might look real slick,
But smells like something excretable.
Common As Dirt
Don’t shoot aluminum into your veins,
Because then it can build up in your brains,
But placed on armpit,
It’s just going to sit,
Busy trying to prevent those pit stains.
Flipper Baby
Leopold wrote of integrity, beauty and stability,
And things that work to build resilience and reduce fragility,
And while he wrote of the wild,
The choices made for a child,
Can be made with the same preserving sense and sensibility.
Dangerous Curves Ahead
On playing with black widow spiders you should take a pass,
And leave those copperhead snakes, wasps and bees down on the grass,
From up above or down below,
These species tend to let you know,
They’re venomous by wearing the shape of an hourglass.
Know Next to Nothings
We don’t need to follow any expert,
To stay stuck down in the dirt.
But to fly high up into the air,
About expertise we must care,
With knowledge we must do more than flirt.
Insensitive Ignorance
Simple sex is a myth that vexes
We're not just XY or two Xs,
There's a complex interplay,
Of hormones and DNA,
Which gives us more than two sexes.
Whether Gauge
From respecting both sides let us refrain,
When one side says sunny the other rain.
The truth's not drizzle,
Let's let lies fizzle,
Reset our gauge to what is honest and sane.
Hot Fusion
It's often said that theory guides,
But that experiment decides,
But that decision rests,
On groups with passing tests,
In replication it resides.
Do The Work
The world is full of folks who say that’s not for you,
That sewing or science shouldn’t be what you do.
Kids need an adult to come along,
And teach them that they’ll never be wrong,
As long as they keep both their work and their hearts true.
Billions and Billions
The evening sky can bring feelings numinous,
When we are shrouded in darkness voluminous,
Flashing fireflies in flight,
And ancient stars burning bright.
Countless worlds living and dying and luminous.
